| Manufacture | Molten Metal Systems (USA) |
| Age | 2004 |
| Design Features | This is a patented design |
| furnace that swivels as well as tilts and therefore avoids | production delays associated |
| with moving molds, crucibles, troughs, salt pans, charging machines | to the one opening position |
| of a conventional tilting rotary. | |
| For example, this furnace can charge scrap and flux with a | hydraulic charging machine at |
| the 120 o'clock position. Then melt at the same position. Then | swivel to 3 o'clock to pour to |
| a holding furnace or sow. Then swivel to 6 o'clock to dump | salt cake. |
| The furnace is situated in a circular hooded area where | 100% of all emissions are |
| captured to a bag house. If needed, lime or sodium bicarbonate | can be added in the baghouse |
| to neutralize acid fumes from UBC scrap, etc. | |
| Equipment | |
| - The furnace shell is designed with a long nose that allows | molten pouring without |
| dumping salt cake. | |
| - The shell is a sturdy 1" thick plate with proper refractory | for long life. |
| - Furnace rotation has a redundant hydraulically driven | chain drive through |
| a pinion at the "belly" of the furnace. | |
| - Drive design encompasses both thrust and load bearings | that can absorb the |
| torque used to start or reverse the rotation. | |
| - The burner system is a North American "Magna Flame" | cold air burner with |
| 10,000,000 BTU/r heating capacity. Melt rate varies | widely depending on the |
| scrap mix (or dross) charged due to material characteristics | and to furnace |
| operating procedures. | |
| Additions and Modifications Possible | |
| - Oxy-Fuel Burner Retrofit | An ACI/Air Liquide burner |
| system can be retrofitted to this melter for use with | natural gas, No2 oil or waste |
| oil. This would increase melt rate, lower cycle time, | lower melt loss and lower |
| energy cost per pound melted. | |
| - Hydraulic Charging Machine | Since charge time is a large |
| part of the overall cycle time, we developed a hyd. | charging machine capable of |
| making a complete one-stroke charge in minutes | rather than much slower |
| vibrating feeder or manual feeding. Also, maintenance | and downtime are reduced. |
| - Baghouse | No bag house is sold with this |
| furnace but we can provide a very good used air-pulse | type unit to handle the |
| emissions from this furnace. | |
| Sold "a is, where is" installed USA. |
